Stafne Bone Defect (Lingual Salivary Gland Depression)

Features:

   •       Well-circumscribed, round or ovoid radiolucency typically below the mandibular canal near the angle of the mandible

   •       Represents a developmental lingual depression containing salivary gland tissue

 

Demographics:

   •       Found more often in adult males

   •       Usually an incidental finding

 

Presentation:

   •       Asymptomatic, not a true cyst or lesion

   •       No treatment required unless diagnostic uncertainty warrants further imaging
