Features:
• Well-defined, round or ovoid radiolucency at the apex (root tip) of a nonvital tooth
• May have a thin radiopaque (sclerotic) border
• Can cause expansion of cortical plates if large
Demographics:
• Most common cystic lesion of the jaws
• Typically found in adults; often in the third to fifth decades
Presentation:
• Usually asymptomatic unless secondarily infected
• May be discovered incidentally on routine radiographs
• Associated tooth often has a history of caries or trauma
