Odontoma (Compound or Complex)

Features:

   •       Compound Odontoma: Appears as multiple small tooth-like structures

   •       Complex Odontoma: Appears as an amorphous radiopaque mass

   •       Both types have a narrow radiolucent rim or capsule around the radiopaque component

 

Demographics:

   •       Most commonly found in children and young adults

   •       Compound odontomas frequently occur in the anterior maxilla; complex in the posterior mandible

 

Presentation:

   •       Often asymptomatic, may be discovered when investigating delayed tooth eruption

   •       Usually not aggressive
