Nasopalatine Duct Cyst (Incisive Canal Cyst)

Features:

   •       Well-defined radiolucency in the midline of the anterior maxilla

   •       May appear round, oval, or “heart-shaped” when superimposed over the nasal spine

   •       Can diverge the roots of the central incisors

 

Demographics:

   •       Most common non-odontogenic cyst of the jaw

   •       Usually diagnosed in adults (4th to 6th decade)

 

Presentation:

   •       Often asymptomatic, found on routine radiographs

   •       Possible swelling in the anterior palate or drainage if secondarily infected
